In the 1930s the motorcar became increasingly popular way to travel to Pitlochry. ‘Highways’ was built in the Art Deco Style in 1936 to accommodate the chauffeurs of Atholl Palace Hotel guests. It was designed by architect John Steel who went on to practice in Canada.
